That happened yesterday in Gaziantep, a city close to the Syrian border and hosting hundreds of thousands of Syrians. After rumors of a 60-year-old Syrian who allegedly molested a 6-y.o. down syndrome girl in a park, hundreds of people took to the streets and tried to lynch the supposed assaulter.
Events escalated in the neighborhood and spilled over the area to other neighborhoods.
Local people taking the streets by hundreds targeted Syrian-owned shops.
Police units were insufficient. Military units were reportedly deployed to control the situation.
The governorate of the province issued a statement telling that the alleged assaulter has been detained and asked people to calm.
Footage of the events. Police used tear gas to scatter the crowds.
