Ancestry/ethnic related pet peeves

Mine is when mixed background people only identify with their "ethnic" side.
Like how white Americans call themselves "Irish" or "German" but are mostly of British colonial background. A user on here who was half Ukrainian said she didn't care about her British side at all and said they didn't count or something.

Yes, I notice this as well. The most developed culture being deemed 'boring' and getting ignored.

We read stories in school about Nigerian,Iranian,Polish,Chinese Americans. It made me feel personally that my own heritage was boring.

That's why i say I'm fully Serb even though I'm half Ugly Dutchling/Belgian.

Similar to this but by "ethnic" side, i mean black.

"white" people who find out they have some black ancestry through DNA testing (typically a pretty low percentage) and suddenly start identifying with it.

I wish I had grew up in a multicultural place and such a liberal place, where we did such things. I grew up in a 100% white place, i was the only non-white. We never read cool multicultural stories, all stories were based on hans and franz etc.

There were quite a few of them on the 23andme forums but I don't frequent their forum anymore. Pretty funny shit to read back then.

Do they? I've never seen a case of that in real life actually. I have a friend with a black great-grandparent and they were kind of ashamed of it.

But now it might be a bit different. I saw a group of elementary school kids. One arab, one Turk, one mullato and 3 white kids. I dont know if now they read more multicultural stories and if all fritz stories were replaced with some mehmet stories.
