Ancestry/ethnic related pet peeves

I wish I had grew up in a multicultural place and such a liberal place, where we did such things. I grew up in a 100% white place, i was the only non-white. We never read cool multicultural stories, all stories were based on hans and franz etc.

What do you expect, you live in Austria.

There were quite a few of them on the 23andme forums but I don't frequent their forum anymore. Pretty funny shit to read back then.

Do they? I've never seen a case of that in real life actually. I have a friend with a black great-grandparent and they were kind of ashamed of it.

true maybe it has a good side too. i dont know how it is to be in a multicultural place with blacks, latinos, arabs, asians etc. maybe its not better like i think, i dont have really a comparison how its to go to a "diverse school"

Yea, it varies. I mean you could still move to a more diverse place if you wanted to.

Come to think of it, I didn't know the word "heritage" even applied to us for the longest time.

It seems like this is only a recent thing, within the last couple generations. Before then, people downplayed their "ethnic side" and boosted their Anglo or White ancestry.

I don't deny at all my spanish heritage but he's relatively ancient (19th century); so i feel more concerned by my french part. Anyway i'm proud of all my ancestors.

Yes, I notice this as well. The most developed culture being deemed 'boring' and getting ignored.

By being in a minority you get yourself a right to possibly use a victim card for instance.

Mine is when mixed background people only identify with their "ethnic" side.
Like how white Americans call themselves "Irish" or "German" but are mostly of British colonial background. A user on here who was half Ukrainian said she didn't care about her British side at all and said they didn't count or something.

That's one of the reasons I don't like 'ethnic' mixing.

You should realistically identify most with the culture you grew up with, a DNA test shouldn't change how we view ourselves aside from the mere curiosity aspect of it. There is probably nothing actually tying you to Spain in the modern day so I see no reason why you should have to identify with it in any way if you don't want to, but this is just my view on these matters.
