'We are open to all families': IKEA provokes outrage in Italy after creating advert with gay couple holding hands

This is the latest gay themed advert from furniture giants IKEA which has appeared on billboards across traditionally Catholic Italy - with surprisingly no outrage.

Swedish based IKEA is no stranger to gay adverts and has run several campaigns in the past - some of which have had to be pulled after complaints from the public.

The advert shows two men holding hands with the slogan reading: ’We are open to all families.’ It adds:’With us you will feel at home. What we want to do is make life easier for everyone, every family, every couple, whoever they are.'

It has been used extensively to promote the opening of the latest IKEA store in Italy at Catania, on the island of Sicily, known for its deeply religious Catholic traditions.

The paper went on to say that it was ''not an isolated incident'' but a clear attempt at ''Swedish Imperialism'' that tried to make everyone equal by having the same ''cheap furniture.''

As a person with too many gay friends myself (which gives me the right to not be politically correct), I think it's important to treat gay people equally by law, let them get married etc. But I don't think it's a good idea to advertise their relationships in public because children can potentially see the advertisement and become confused which means that the act of showing the advertisement is offensive to traditional families with children.

Traditional families (including children) shouldn't go out of the way to change the national channel because of a liberal offensive commercial with gay people to let ONLY 1% of people feel welcome- rather it should be the gay lifestyle that respects the traditional family. IKEA has no common sense. (I also feel the same way about interracial couple commercials but that's another story)

Homosexuality is an aberration, a pathetic distortion of true human biology.

It's not a good idea as long as you're not into brainwashing minds. Just by watching Ikea commercials I used to wonder if that's not a collateral objective of them.

having a lot of gay friends as well, i can honestly say can you really blame ikea for plotting to melt the hearts of gays, specifically gay men? they're a great consumer audience when it comes to furniture (this is something i've consistently seen as a priority amongst a lot of gay men, and they WILL spend the money), and after that it's to bed bath and beyond! it probably would boost sales at bb&b if they did this, too.

as far as it being an outrage? who fucking cares? they're gay, wow. people need to lay off the holy water.

edit: although i can only speak for what it's like here in america.

Modern publicity seem to consider people buy things (or choose one among many) for really bizarre causes, like being represented by the actors of spots. If I would act like "your gays" and dont buy things unless I explicitelly could identify myself, not with product itself, but with actors enjoying it, then my money will be worth zero.

Modern publicity is a big cancer for our societies. No wonder wise and capitalistic commies of China gov are to ban luxury products being publicited.

Italy is one of the few places in Europe where one can make a living as a cabinetmaker, so ok IKEA is evil, but let's not make out to be more than it is.
