I actually have a 2018 Honda Accord myself and I love it! I bought it while I was living in Japan and decided to bring it back with me when I moved to the US. The guys from https://www.a1autotransport.com/honda/ handled the shipping.
Since you're a university student and employee, I think the Accord would be a perfect match for you, given its practicality and the good resale value it holds. I've had a great experience with mine, and it's never let me down.

My parents have top of the line Tiguan. Great bulky and very safe car, lies fantastic on the road, but very uncomfortable inside like most German cars and they had costly problems with electronics.
I have high end hybrid Toyota Yaris Cross and it's amazing. Not so sturdy like VW but lot softer and cheaper to maintain. Japanese cars are amazing and my personal favorites so far. Great design, top engines, amazing to drive and lot of spare parts for good prices in circulation on the market.

Btw my parents Tiguan is disel and still spends a lot of fuel. Plus maintenance is really expensive. I wouldn't recommend it.
But if one gets expensive version with automatic transmission, transmission itself is elite and one of best on the market, it's crazy good and can be switched to manual any time. Another thing I already mentioned about Tiguan is how safe it is. My mother had horiffic incident and went out almost injury free because of how solid and built like a tank Tiguan is. In lesser car she could have been killed or put in a wheelchair for life.
Still, I wouldn't buy any German car except Mercedes. Japanese are better investment for people with average budget IMO.
