Default A third of U.S. adults say they have used fertility treatments or know someone who has

Four decades after the birth of Louise Brown, the first “test-tube baby” conceived via in vitro fertilization (IVF), 33% of American adults report that they or someone they know has used some type of fertility treatment in order to try to have a baby, according to a new Pew Research Center survey.

The share of people who say they have undergone a fertility treatment or know someone who has varies markedly by education and income. About four-in-ten (43%) of those with a bachelor’s degree have had some exposure to fertility treatment – either through their own experience or that of someone they know – and the share rises to 56% among those with a postgraduate degree. About half (48%) of people with family incomes of $75,000 or more also have been exposed to fertility treatment. (The survey did not specify what type of treatment.)

Whites are more likely than blacks or Hispanics to report that they have undergone a fertility treatment or know someone who has (37% vs. 22% and 26%, respectively), and women are more likely than men to say the same (36% vs. 30%).

It has a lot to do with choosing to establish a successful career before having children. 35-44 biologically is not a good age range to have children but in terms of being financially sound it makes sense.

    Agreed mostly.
Though seeing more useless degrees coming in over time. People often today need 5+ years post secondary (once upon a time high school completion or 4 yrs was enough to succeed at top).
Generally not happy with this cause of the below level fertility rates. Certainly younger adults on average are less mature due to society (especially males) and feminism (especially females). The kids and parents both suffer with later births (if the child has mental problems, women has problem giving birth, etc).

It costs too much to have a stable life nowadays. So many American families live paycheck to paycheck.

Very true. It's a question of standards at the end of the day. I only have one child right now but I can afford to give her a lot of advantages and attention that I hope she will appreciate one day.

On the flip side my husband's first cousin has 4 boys (in the pursuit of having a girl) and they all live in a 2 bedroom apartment. She doesn't work and home schools and is pregnant with a girl so I am hoping that she stops there because it is not sustainable based on their income.

It seems to me that the people that can't afford kids have the most. Fertility treatments seem to be an argument against nature but I would rather see people with means and a desire to have a family make a family rather than people who can't afford to have them proliferate.

Reading this sounds very dismal. How old are you?

Caused by Neoliberalism, globalization and outsourcing.
Leading to middle class falling and more income inequality.

Before a man could support his family alone with 3-4 kids. Now you need both parents working often.

You sound like a communists. Its part of how capitalism works. And the middle class doesnt shrink. The standard of living raises.

Cant stand wasting my time on low intelligence people but whatever (you are essentially using black and white thinking: capitalist vs communist)...
While technology and living standards for some have improved,
the fact remains MIDDLE CLASS IN AMERICA HAS STAGNATED OR FALLEN AS A PERCENTAGE.

However, according to Pew Research Center, the middle class may be dwindling in America.

“The middle class lost ground in nearly nine-in-ten U.S. metropolitan areas examined,” the Washington-based research firm said in a report released Wednesday.

Neoliberalism doesnt represent all forms of capitalism.

Neoliberalism is one evil, the other evil is socialism.
