Transparent 'jelly nails' are the latest Nineties-inspired trend taking over Instagram

Garden and fishtail eyebrows are among the quirkier beauty trends that have taken social media by storm in 2018.

And now transparent 'jelly nails' are the latest craze taking over Instagram by storm - thanks to Kylie Jenner.

The 20-year-old mother-of-one last week posted a snap of her fluoro-pink translucent acrylic nails - and there are now 4,000 #jellynails posts.

The extensions, often claw like in shape, are designed by filing the natural nail to the nail bed and painting acrylic over the top of a cone.

They are then painted in clear or Nineties-inspired candy colours, and can be adorned with glitter and jewels.

Some prefer to leave them plain, and many are filed into a claw-like shape using a cone


Some are decorated more extravagantly using gems, crystals and bright colours


Others reinterpret the classic French manicure using glitter instead of a white tip


In line with the Nineties look many have used holographic inspired 'chrome' colours


Some opted for a marbled effect over the nails with a textured glitter nail on their ring finge


Others showed off gold foiled nails and in a reverse interpretation of the French manicure


Taking it to the next level one creative even showed glass nails adorned with fruits and glitter


Going for a beach-inspired look, others added seashells, glitter and pearls to their look


Some went for full on candy coloured-pink and glitter, embracing the kitsch trend


Many opted for the classic look, sporting extravagantly long transparent nails with clear polish

Weird. I really don't remember those colors from the 90s though. In know in the 90s we used to wear a lot of brown and orange and dark blackish red. But maybe that was just me.
