The lower classes do not have enough money to buy healthy/good food so they rely on bad quality aliments who are usualy the most cheap products compared with certified quality meat, rice, potatoes, fish..... That's why many of them are so fat.

1) Healthy food is way cheaper than unhealthy food.

2) Potatoes, carrots, and onions are the cheapest vegetables ever. Beans are cheap too in the US.

Mas a maioria só está um pouco acima do peso, não conheço nenhum obeso.

This is a issue even in the militaries of very capable countries. Czech and British are having issues with this. It has been a issue in the U.S. for a while but when I served they ran our asses off. I was very skinny.

Well. but that is not a matter of being "poor" - that is a matter of the traditional cuisine - at least in the Czech republic. We are country in the middle of Europe, we don't have sea, a favorable climate for fruit/vegetable; our traditional cuisine is very heavy (pork, flour meals, animal fats, ...) - that's the main reason here why usually older people tend to be obese... (btw. it is usually not an extreme obesity).
