Europe battles one of most intense heat waves in history

Late-spring and the first stretch of the summer have been exceptionally warm and dry in some areas of northern Europe. The weather across the northern part of the continent from Scandinavia to Russia, has been ruled, off and on, by a very a persistent high pressure ridge that has no intention of leaving this week.

The intense heat and the lack of precipitation is also causing the drought scenario to worsen. Sweden, Norway, Germany, Holland, Poland, the British Isles and the Baltic Republics are living some of the most extreme conditions. This very warm dry weather has also been accompanied on occasions by gusty winds, causing intense fast-moving wildfires especially in Sweden (see video: https://www.theweathernetwork.com/uk...o-rain/107146/)

The European Union Drought Monitoring site also points out that as the heat and lack of precipitation continue, there is a potential risk for agricultural drought to occur. Farmers in Germany and Sweden are already struggling with a parched harvest as above normal temperatures go on. Some areas in east Germany have yet to see noteable rain since April, the worst in living history some farmers say.

The first half of summer, June 1st through July 16th, has been the driest in modern record history for the U.K. But the heat wave is expected to continue into August with temperatures above 30oC (86oF) and that could extend the record period even further.

Europe's blistering heatwave: The parched, yellowing fields of Brandenburg this morning. Europe's grain farmers face the worst harvest in six years due to an unrelenting drought. East Germany's dry spell - with no proper rain since April - the worst in living memory, farmers say.
    9:58 AM - Jul 16, 2018 · Brandenburg, Germany

MORE HOT DRY WEATHER ON THE WAY

Below normal precipitation and above normal heat is expected across those countries currently affected by the heat wave during the last part of July and into early August. Positive temperature anomalies of 10 to 20oF are forecast from France and the U.K. into Belgium, Holland, Germany, Switzerland and most of Scandinavia.

It is not usual to see similar temperature values in the north and south of the continent. Countries like Germany, Holland, Belgium, Sweden and Norway will be seeing similar temperatures to those registered in commonly warmer areas like Spain, Italy, Greece or Turkey.

Meanwhile much of southern Europe is experiencing cooler than normal weather with hefty thunderstorms moving across the region. This week will be again marked by high pressure across much of the continent meaning that the dry weather will go on.

Current UK heatwave with temperatures hotter than Miami and Lisbon, etc: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44933429

Tomorrow will be even hotter where I am (despite the heat over the previous weeks) and predicted to reach 34C.

National health warning alerts have been issued to UK people to stay out of the sun, (I have to walk long hours in the heat though at work... but I wear loads of skin and hair and eye protection,) due to the long heatwave and droughts affecting Northern European nations, bushfires in Sweden, etc: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44933429

There's a risk of overheating and sunstroke to humans and pets, and regular hydration, taking shade and cooling techniques are vital.

Some African nations have reached a record-high temperature this year of 51C... and there's heatwaves and bushfires in other parts of the globe too... bushfires in Ontario, Canada, and Australia, etc.

It's been one absolute summer of hell and a nightmare. The fireball sun has been far too harsh and hot and merciless. I yearn for some cool beautiful rain and for temperatures to drop... but the forecast for next week is high temperatures again.

The sweltering heatwave gripping the UK has triggered a high pollution warning as forecasters predict the mercury could reach 37C by the end of the week.

London mayor Sadiq Khan said he triggered the capital-wide warning for Thursday amid concerns over “extremely high” temperatures.

He added that it is only the second time this year that the high alert has been used.

An amber heat health watch warning is also in place for much of east and south-east England, with people being urged to try to stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm.

Parts of Britain have been warned temperatures could rise above 35C (95F) this week, as holidaymakers are urged to stay out of the sun amid extreme hot weather that is gripping northern Europe.

Monday was the hottest day so far of 2018 with a high of 33.3C recorded at Santon Downham in Suffolk. But it is set to get even hotter, with temperatures expected to peak on Thursday and Friday thanks to a plume of air dubbed the Mediterranean Melt.

Temperatures reached a high of 31.4C (88.5F) on Tuesday as the heatwave continued across vast parts of the UK.

Humans get what they have ordered....as polluting Mother Earth and using as it is theirs.

Different things different part of planet or in different seasons...

Hot and dry in Scandinavia? Sure, and many keeps this clearly the best summer
    since 2010....except farmers.

We're fucked. And it's all because of those meatheads that make it a point to eat like pigs. You can talk shit about people who care for the environment as being a bunch of pussy f-ggots, but say all you want when the Eiffel Tower's under water because of you redneck dumb-asses.

I do not understand the one on that map you see the heat of the north and center of europe but not of the south of europe. Does the heat not affect the south of europe?
