What kind of accent do you have?

I never thought I had any kind of accent in particular, until I was visiting in Saratoga, and everyone thought I was from the Deep South. Yet, I grew up in Northern Virginia, I have a faintly Southern accent!
Everyone has an accent, and I can hear when someone is not from Virginia. What kind of accent do you have, and do you think you sound like your parents, or more like your peers? I tend to sound like my mom's family.They are all from Tidewater Virginia area. But I don't sound so much like people my own age. I spent early childhood summers with my older relatives, and I never had many friends so I sound like family.

I'm from North Florida (near Alabama border), and if I have an accent it's much more subtle than most people I know. When I was younger people used to tell me I didn't sound like I was from the South at all. I don't know. I'll post it later.

Roman, i tend to double all consonant (not as strongly as some ) . and in this Romanesco is similar to Tuscan

like in Tuscan E is most of the time closed rather than open (it's open a lot of time in Milanese, Calabrese and eastern sicilian).

often there is interchangability between R and L( like some tuscan variants)

plus it has lost a lot of diphtongs like "Uo" , substituted simply by "O" (diphtongs that neapolitan retained)

but it has other traits that are more in common with neapolitan like the assimilation of those combination of consonants.

-LD- > -LL- (example caldo to callo), -ND- > -NN-, (example Quando to quanno)


i restrain myself in certain situations not to speak it like i speak it with my friends because roman accent gives the stereotypical image of someone uneducated rude and lazy.

It's funny, but I never really considered Florida the South. I know the northern part is kind of Southern, but overall, it's the least Southern state in the South. Even Virginia is more Southern .
