It's common for men in my family to be given names that pay homage to past generations.
Why did your ancestors have double names like Henry/Enrique?

No those are the translations of the names between Spanish and English.

My direct paternal line is mostly Spanish.

Then how did you get an English surname?

Because my mother is English and I got her paternal lineage's name + if you look at the family tree I posted in the "Post Your Family Tree" thread, you'll see that my great grandfather was British(and Breton,) I also got his surname.

I mentioned in some other thread that I have a double barrelled name, made of both paternal lineages combined. My father's side is mostly Spanish, but with some English (and minor French) heritage thrown in.

    EDIT:

    I found it.

So essentially you're 1/2 English, 3/8 Spanish, and 1/8 Portuguese?

Yeah pretty much, the Portuguese line probably has some SSA input because they had been in Brazil for longer (although still recent), we are still looking at their records, no Amerindian as far as we know.

The British and Spanish are all born in Europe and acquired Brazilian citizenship, I'm essentially a 2nd gen Brazilian, but 1st gen actually born in Brazil.

I was taken to England when I was still a baby and remained here, only staying in Brazil for short periods of time to visit family members that stayed, and for business purposes, that's why I identify far more with my British side than my Iberian and Brazilian sides.

Fairly average for where I grew up. My accent is known as 'Estuary', from Oxfordshire, though I have a hint of Wiltshire country too.

lmao yes, i wanted to write down numbers but off the top of my head:

    george/georg, john/johann/es, william, thomas

    maria/mary, anna, catherine/catharina, elizabeth,

john in its forms is easily 1/3rd of all male names, mary/maria is probably the same

just noticed that one particular branch of my 4 grandparents names (how i organized it) has names that are generally not in common with all other 3 branches. funny. some really british only names including, lawrence, percy, frances, eliza

most inexplicable name is "letitia", no i do not have an urban ancestor. i think it must have been a character in a play or story from that time.
