"Bi-partisan" ... yes, that word is at the root of the problem. There are only two political parties in America, effectively. It's a monopoly, and no independent thought can ever come through while those two groups are in power. It's a big joke really. American democracy? No.

I see a lot of Obama criticism on Fox ... there was loads on Friday. In fact, I think Obama criticism seems to be the overriding theme on Fox.

You can find criticism of Obama on Fox but it is balanced out by someone singing Obama's praises. Even O'Reilly is going out of his way to be "fair & balances" when it comes to Obama. Sean Hannity can be depended upon to go after Obama & maybe Glenn Beck, though I really don't get the opportunity to see Beck that aften because of his time slot. Van Susteren usually covers current crime stories. The other night Dick Morris was discussing Obama's chances for reelection, which Morris thinks is pretty good because of Obama's charisma & comparing him to FDR in 1940. Of course Morris thought McCain was going to win the election back in September.

I like watching Fox, as it gives me a break from the usual stale and boring British news reporting. Americans rock.

I try to watch the news on BBC America at least once a week. It makes me feel so posh & sophisticated. And it is interesting to get a point-of-view from a media outlet that is not American or Murdoch controlled.

The BBC America newcasts do not seem overtly leftist when compared with the American broadcasters. Maybe they tone down their reputed leftism for the American audience.

What do you get in Ethnic terms on your BBC?

I was watching it the other day, and the main man was an Indian kicked out of East Africa by Idi Amin, the top story was covered by a Indian reporter about an Indian film, some item following was about Pakistani terrorists, and then we went to local news, where the old feller who's been doing it for years is getting clearly shunted aside by a Pakistani woman who they've been grooming for the job.

I can't stand to watch any more, honestly.

White with proper English ancents. BBC English? I have no problem understanding them. I know American broadcasters do not have regional accents. Usually the BBC World News America broadcast is anchored by either by Matt Frei or Katty Kay.

    Matt Frei

    Katty Kay

I think they may play up the Britishness of the BBC for the American audience. If we wanted diversity we could watch one of the American channels.

    That's undoubtedly the case.

It's madness; the only form of English or British that sells overseas is the one they're mad on destroying at home. I've seen pathetic attempts to sell the 'new Britain' at British Council events and so on, but Russians at least just poured derision on it. The world wants to believe it's all as it was in Mary Poppins's day.

There is plenty of diversity on the scripted programming on BBC America. And sex. You Brits seem obsessed with sex. Of course we have alot of sex on American TV also but much of that is due to Rupert Murdoch.

I used to get my impression of England from Masterpiece Theater on PBS (the non-profit broascaster in the US that gets by on donations). They aired a lot of highbrowed period programs that was made in Britain. I had the impression that most of rural Britain was made up of postcard perfect villages & a countryside that was parklike. The cities were made of tidy Georgian terrace houses or grand Victorian buildings.

I saw Remains of the Day on TV this past weekend on one of the 200 satellite channels that is part of my subscription. This was the kind of programming that use to only showup on Masterpeice. An excellent film. Turns out it is based on a novel written by a Japanese man who cowrote the script with an Indian woman & produced by an Indian. But it still does an excellent job of projecting the kind of image many Americans have of England.
