Stop worrying about IQ., It's meaningless. All that an IQ test measures is test-taking ability. I used to know a woman with a >150 IQ who didn't have the sense to come in out of the rain, She lived on an annuity from her parents who realised that she would never be able to support herself. I know a man with a 160 IQ who is a feckless ne'er-do-well, who has lost over 40 jobs in the past 15 years and whose major talent seems to be sponging off relatives and friends.

I have an IQ of 180. I am very bright, but no genius, though my IQ would seem to indicate that I am. I saw through the IQ test years ago and realised that all it tested was ability to second-guess the author of the test. Possibly useful on quiz programs.

It's certainly not meaningless when there is a correlation between occupations and IQ. The problem of the people you are speaking have (or had) isn't intelligence but something else. People vary in personality traits. For example, someone with a high IQ can easily not do anything significant with it if they're not a conscientious person. Conscientiousness is no doubt the most important personality trait but on the flip side a conscientious person with an average IQ is not going to be found in a doctor's office or law firm.

But their high IQ's really did nothing for them anyway. Without drive or initiative, having a High IQ really is worthless.

Perhaps they are too busy thinking, therefore never getting anything done. It doesn't take a genius to start a successful business for example.

But thats's my point. The average/lower IQ people are actually contributing something worthwhile to society. Stuff that people can use.
Getting stuff done. No idiot can start a business, btw. You have to have at least a slightly above average IQ to make it work well.

Intelligent people stretch their interests across too many subjects as well. People who get shit done tend to be able to focus better on a specific set of things.

You can possess both traits though. I don't think it's as simple as intelligent people can't function.

Jim Morrison had the IQ level of a genius and he was extremely creative.

His father was an admiral in the US navy who commanded the US Navy during the war with Vietnam. Jim studied the entire works of Nietzsche at university, along with many poetry and philosophy books. His teachers said they couldn't keep up with him. His sister is a school teacher.

Jim was a sensitive soul who lived life in extremes (people with high IQ's are more susceptible to mental problems.) He'd fall asleep at night on top of rooftops whilst writing his intense poetry.




Before his tragic death at age 27, he gratuated from one of his uni's as a film maker, made six mind-blowing music albums, authored and wrote books of poetry (he was a poet first and then a very talented singer) and made some films inbetween tours... as well as being idolised by loads of rockstars and musicians and poets and singers, admired by thousands of females, and earning a fortune.

The keyboard player and organist in The Doors (Ray Manzarek) had university degrees in economics and film-making. He learned to play classical music on his piano from an early age and musicians brains are scientificially shown to be different to non-musicians brains. He was highly articulate like James Morrison, talented and very artistically creative. The answers they gave to interviewers questions were very intelligent, deep and intense, like their lyrics and music.

But he lived life on the edge and had a fascination with the dark side of nature... police had to stand on stage during his concerts, the FBI opened a file on him, he'd jump out of moving vehicles, dangle over the high balconies of hotels, would drink heavily and take a lot of drugs, and it's a shame what happened to him as he was well-read, highly articulate, extremely gorgeous, raised in a conservative middle class household, and was a very insightful, creative, artistic and talented person with the IQ level of a genius. He remains a legend though and he left us with mind-blowing music and poetry.
