It's very interesting how some of them score admixture with Caucasian populations, Central Asian populations, and South Asian populations. I heard from another member that some ancient Irish people from 2k years ago were able to be modeled as 1/4 Afghan and had Gedrosia/Caucasus admixture, maybe that is the link.

Indian Genomics can be modeled by four-way populations, not two way populations. Read more in this thread:

Most probably some Steppe connections that both populations have. Interestingly on LivingDNA I get 1.4 Chechyna and 1.3 Pashtun which is really cool.

Yes, it might be steppe connections since steppe ancestry is extremely strong in populations like the Afghan Pashtuns and Pamiri Tajiks. Pashtuns I saw score half steppe on geneplaza, and Pamiri Tajiks score 60- even nearly 70%, with the rest being mostly Iranian Neolithic Farmer, EEF, and bits of WHG and ASE.

I've always had a fascination with that part of the world. I would love to have some actual Pashtun ancestry but I think it is something ancient. My daughter also got it on LivingDNA.

That's funny because I've always found Irish people fascinating, too. I would also love to have actual Irish ancestry to have something that connects me to my fellow Americans, who largely claim Irish descent, too, lol. I am new to learning about Irish history and genomics, but I have always been mesmerized by Ireland. The country is just so beautiful and full of diversity that many people overlook.

Ireland has a half Indian PM which you most probably know. I know you're not Indian though. Also one of the most beautiful Miss Ireland's was Andrea Roche who had an Indian grandmother.

Also there was a lot of soldiers in the British Army in India so there most likely is some Irish blood in that part of the world.

Afghanistan is not very similar to India though. Afghanistan is more of an extension of Iran with Central Asian (Tajik, Turkmen, Uzbek, Kazakh) influences. Also, genetically, Afghan Pashtuns on GEDMtach come out as 50% Kalash/Balochi/Burusho and 50% Chechen (North Caucasian). The British Army India fought with the Afghans three times and lost, so I likely don't have blood from them. What is interesting though, is that one of my family members has a Scottish surname, and I do have some cousin matches on ancestry that claim Scottish ancestry. However, I don't know if it is just coincidence or real ancestry.

There are definitely some similarities with India, and some Afghans can look Indian, but I think most people forget that Afghanistan is part of the Iranian Plateu and that it is more of a West-Central Asian nation than a South Asian one.

If you want to see what my family members look like, you can see here (although, my mother is not fully Pashtun).

Your mother is beautiful and so are your sisters. Thanks for the information on Afghanistan. So Pashtuns are more Afghan?

Have you ever taken a dna test?
