High class Carthaginians were almost all of pure Phoenician blood, or at maximum mixed with Berbers, since most of them despised strangers, and unions with strangers were improbable, moreover the Phoenician quarter of Carthage and the hill of Byrsa with the temples of the gods were off limits for strangers. Except these places Carthage was a multicultural metropolis of 600.000 inhabitants, with Greek, Jew, Libyan (Berber), Iberian quarters.
