Hannibal's wife was Iberian, he married the daughter of an Iberian chief. Unluckily the historical fonts don't say anything about Hannibal's mother. He was surely Caucasoid and white, and not SSA like that seen in the documentary.

Also , Hannibal was born before the colonization and settlement of Iberia by the hands of his father , it is very unlikely that his mother is iberian .

But saying "white" depends on your defintion , if you mean european white then no he isn't white , if you just refer to caucausians as white then yes he is white , if you refer to just his skin color then we don't really know but it is very unlikely . On the other hand , there is no way he was negroid .

A better question would probably be: Why do Afrocentrists usually seek connections with such historical figures?

Because they simply can't find great black historical figures , there are just a few whose story is not well documanted and whose acheivements were not that great .

Actually Tunisia's original name is Africa but europeans decided to call the entire continent with that name . During the greco-roman period Africa was called "Ethopia" which meant the land of burned faces in Greek . The locals and cathagnians by extension prefered the name "Libya" which has an unknown origin .
