Lots of Germans settled there and later became Polonized.

You can find towns in Galicia where the majority of inhabitants have Polish surnames of German origin (like Ulman, Inglot, Cwynar, Nycz, Groelle, Szpunar, Lonc, Uchman, Bartman, Reizer, Rejman, Pelc, Kluz, Szajer, Szmuc, Preisner, Rydel, Falger, Bem, Tejchman, Bytnar, Ladenberger, etc.).

Many towns and villages in Galicia have originally German names with German etymology.

For example Łańcut (Landshut), Grybów (Grynberg), Albigowa (Helwigau), etc.

On the other hand, names like Rostock, Dresden or Berlin have Slavic origin & etymology.

No his ancestors are from part of Galicia which is in Poland now.

But there were German settlements in Western Ukraine as well.

Anyway entire Galicia was part of Poland before WW2.
