I've always liked the lyrics to the first verse of our national anthem.

"The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States of America. The lyrics come from "Defence of Fort McHenry", a poem written in 1814 by the 35-year-old amateur poet Francis Scott Key after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by Royal Navy ships in Chesapeake Bay during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812.

The poem was set to the tune of a popular British drinking song, written by John Stafford Smith for the Anacreontic Society, a men's social club in London. "The Anacreontic Song" (or "To Anacreon in Heaven"), set to various lyrics, was already popular in the United States. Set to Key's poem and renamed "The Star-Spangled Banner", it would soon become a well-known American patriotic song.

On a dark desert highway; cool wind in my hair;

Last thing I remember, I was running for the door:
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before.
"Relax." said the night-man, "We are programmed to receive:
You can check-out any time you like, but, you can never leave."

"Els Segadors" (The Reapers) is the national anthem of Catalonia. It has been an unofficial anthem of the Catalan people since the late 19th century, and the official and national one since 1993.

The song is based on the events of 1639 and 1640 when Catalans fought against The Count-Duke of Olivares, the chief minister of King Philip IV of Spain: the Reapers' War.
