Okay bub, I really have to get this off my chest now...Why is it every time somebody likens Roma people, Afghans, Iranians, Pakis & Indians to West Asians you get really fidgety and panicky? Though Gitanos crossed from North Africa and would have Arabo-Berber elements but they are the exception though. The majority of Roma's MENA ancestry is via Iran and Anatolia

There are some roma in Tunisia (around 20 thousand) and we call them "Doumar" or the trash in our dialect , but other than a few sterotypes they aren't seen as a distinct ethnic group and they mix normally with other tunisians .

I think 23andme gives more mena ancestry then roma actually have. Some Roma have two or three times the amount of mena then what they have southasian. I dont believe this.

Hi Svetlozar, we appear to be cousins (Hello cousin!) I have seen that you are active in genealogy and especially Roma heritage. I saw the different Roma result you uploaded on a blog as well. So I would like to ask you if you could help me to solve a confusion of my dna results. 23andme has given me 39.5% EUR of which 37.2% are balkan, 31.5% Middle Eastern (no North African though) and 22.5% South Asian. Those results seemed to be truthful at first, then I uploaded my results to different sources that exaggerated the south asian to 30-40% and drastically decreased the Middle Eastern and slightly the EUR. On GedMatch the south asian or Indian comes out as 25-35% and the Middle Eastern (or Near Eastern also known on some calculators) is around 9%, which is confusing, on gedmatch my EUR gets as low as 5% Eastern Euro and i barely match any european population with not less than 30 distance which again varies from the original results of 23andme that classified my as almost 40% EUR. There were people who told me that 23andme exagerates the Middle Eastern in Roma people but I have seen Roma' s results with less middle eastern and generally EUR ME SA in various amounds so I don't think they would do that to specific people only. I am originally from Bulgaria and I assume that you are familiar with the Turkish Roma of the Balkans. My family has a lot of Turkish influence and I also have known ancestors born in Turkey. And in the end how happens that all other resources gave me similar results and 23 gave me different. Do you think that something went wrong with my sample or the other resources can not properly work with Chip V5 yet. I would really appreciate if you give your view on this problem. Thank you.

This a roma result, notice she scores twice or more then twice the amount of mena then southasian. Even if they mixed with menas on their way I highly doubt that it was to that much extent.

As for the source, its mostly western asian very few northafrican and arabian. mine says turkey
