Aus dem Bruch - related to mining?

Schweikert - old germanic for spear thrower

Edit: Rothaer pointed out, that Aus dem Bruch is more likely related to a swamp or wetland, hence Bruch = brook.

Essentially all German fixed surnames emerged in the Middle Ages from the 13th to the 15th century. It varied among the regions, but the time span for when surnames became fixed in a particular region regularly was abt. 3 generations. However, this means that German surnames are a time capsule from abt. 600 - 700 years ago.
Jews and Frisians are an exception. They had no fixed surnames till they were forced to chose one at abt. 1820 (varies in regions as well).

Don't have many, and most are way back: Taylor, Turner, Sargeant, Smith, Barker. Some others that may be occupational originally but not sure: Mayer, Mellor, Bower.

Occupational names aren't as common in England as in Germany, and they don't exist in Irish names AFAIK.

@rothaer, your deleted reply to the OP made me literally lol, re: King as an occupational name.
    Spoiler!

My surname doesn't come from a profession, the only other surname that I know of in my family is "Vasilescu", so it's related to "king"
