Default What's the significance of a 1% Siberian result on the GEDmatch K13 calculator?

Is it actually indicative of Siberian ancestry way way back or is it not really reliable? I'm really new to this whole thing so I don't know what to make of it.
    Thanks.

I really wonder why you thumbed down both for me and oneyes.

We didn't say anything bad, we just make a joke so you can understand what 1% siberian means.

no, 1% is not reliable. you most likely have no Siberian ancestry. for example me and two friends who tested are all at around 4-to-6% on that K13 run for Siberian + East Asian + Oceanic + Amerindian. we can talk in that case of remote but real Mongolic ancestry

1% is nothing. It does not really mean any direct Siberian ancestry. Thousands of years ago there were some hunters gatheres in Eurasia and some of them had an admixture that resembled modern Siberian admixture.
We just share some genetic information (alleles) with these hunters gatherers and this is the source of our Siberian admixture. My Siberian score is 2.22 and I don't have any direct Siberian ancestry.

This may come from ANE, EHG and other ancient populations. It does not really mean any modern, direct East Asian ancestry.

if the population has a 2% average and you are at 5% it can be real ancestry I think, especially since Romania, unlike Central Europe, really had (and still has) Mongolic populations sedentarized here (Cuman, Pecheneg, Tatar - the first two melted into other groups while the latter still exists).

but yes, those that are in the average numbers most probably just inherit it from the generic ANE/EHG

Exactly. If your score is about the population average for your ethnicity then it means nothing. If your score is significantly higher (I like your example and percentages) then it probably is related to some real ancestry.
