    Default Regional costumes from Andalusia

Doing a researching, interested as I am in southern folklore, I came up with this wonderful display of it, with colour and personality. These are particulary from the area of Granada.

According to oral family tradition E-FT155550 comes from a deserter of Napoleon's troops (1808-1813) who stayed in Spain and changed his surname.

Truth, legend or myth, who can know?

The curious origin of the flamenco dress

    https://sevillasecreta.co/origen-del-traje-flamenca/

The Real cannot be conceived without the great gallery of flamenco dresses that are seen year after year. There are few dresses in the world as iconic as this suit and it is unique, since despite being a constantly changing outfit, it never forgets its roots.

Its origin is humble, since its antecedent is the work gown of peasant and gypsy women who went with the traffickers to the cattle fairs. These women worked with a ruffled gown, whose embroidery and colors caught the attention of high-ranking women, who discovered the unusual beauty of these garments and copied this ruffled gown.

From 1929, the year of the Universal Exhibition, the flamenco dress was established as the official dress to go to the Fair and was projected to the whole world, becoming a benchmark of Spanish culture. This tradition has been maintained to this day.

There is an entire industry around flamenco dress and it is ironic that being something whose origin is humble, today it is a whim that can cost from 100 to 1000 euros. Not to mention all the accessories that are purchased along with the suit, which are not especially cheap either.

Curiously, it is the only regional costume in Spain that is renewed according to fashion and reinvents itself every year. And it is not only dressed in Seville or Malaga, but it is also typical of pilgrimages and special occasions such as fashion catwalks. Something similar occurs with flamenco and its origins, which began as a popular expression and has ended up being declared as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, but that is another story that we will tell you on another occasion.
