I always sleep with boxers on to ensure that I'm at least semi-decent in case I need to get up from bed quickly. I can't sleep with anything else on though.

Only Boxers usually in the summer.
Although I must say that in very hot nights paradoxaly if you sleep on the side it is better to wear light trousers to avoid any sweaty leg on sweaty leg contact.

Never, even during the insanely hot Aussie summer I just sleep with a singlet and shorts with the a/c on blast just before I fall asleep. I have only slept naked if I first engaged in some kind of in-bed activities prior to sleeping.
