I think it makes it worse, not better.

Even if I wasn't a believing Christian, if I was forced to pick an Abrahamic religion to convert to, I'd still pick Christianity, because I'm not a fan of male circumcision.

So they converted because of economic coercion instead of military force? That's still a form of coercive proselytising, even if it's not forced conversion at the tip of a sword.

    1) 'to genocide' is not a verb
    2) Israel does not commit genocide. At most it engages in mild ethnic cleansing and has created a quasi-apartheid-esque situation in the west bank
    3) people who aren't Jewish can become Jewish but Israel doesn't treat people who aren't Jewish as prospective converts obviously

I also think it's disingenuous to argue the Levant adopted the religion (and language) of its conquerors and colonists willingly even if, yes, Christians and Jews weren't directly forced to convert. Under al-Hakim they were kicked out of Israel though. There were a lot of pressures on them.and you're betraying a certain naďveté by ignoring that. If someone told you to leave your country or convert, you might convert. By this logic Catholics in Spain never forced anyone to convert because the option to leave the country and travel to parts unknown was always open.
