IMO here are good examples:

Berwickshire, Lanarkshire, Stirlingshire, Roxburghshire in Scotland sound like they would be places in England instead, though these names should sound English because they are heavily Anglicized versions of Gaelic place names.

Wexford and Waterford in Ireland also sound like they belong in England, and neither name is of Gaelic origin but Norse.

Salemi, Alimena, and Alia in Sicily all sound like they would be in an Arab country.

Tropea, Amantea, Locri, Sibari, Gallipoli, Monopoli, and Panarea in Apulia and Calabria, Italy sound like they belong in Greece.

Casablanca in Morocco sounds like it should be in Spain.

Most towns and cities in my state sound like they should be in England instead of the U.S. Its understandable why if you look at history. Massachusetts is one of the six states known as New England.

Syracuse in USA and it sounds like in Sicily

Clark City in the Philippines sounds like it should be in the USA.

Sultan Kudarat, also in the Philippines, sounds like it should be in Saudi Arabia

Naga City, also in the Philippines, sounds like it should be in India.

Mexico-Pampanga, also in the Philippines, belongs to Mexico.

Isabella City in the Philippines should belong to Spain.

Saint Petersburg in Russia sounds like it should belong to Germany.

Philadelphia in the USA sounds like it should belong to Greece.

I am sure there's a disturbing story behind how "Chinaman's Knob" was named and a funny story to "Cock Wash".

Anyway, just a bit of trivia.

It's just funny how Sultan Kudarat, an area named after a Sultan who lead the resistance of Sultanate of Maguindanao against the Spanish empire is now a majority Christian area.

Likewise, Lanao del Sur a place named with Hispanic nomenclature, is Muslim majority now.
