We Filipinos have a love-hate relationship with Indonesia. Manila used to be a Majapahit province under the the place-name, Saludung, as written in the Nagarakretagama, but the Rajahnate of Maynila allegedly rebelled against Majapahit. Likewise the then Rajahnate of Sulu (Before it became a Sultanate) also raided and destroyed the Majapahit province of Barune (Brunie) in a short war. But yet, our states were counted as under the Majapahit Empire though. Personally, I'm proud of our tradition of defiance against that Empire even though it tried to conquer us.

the same word, used in a toponymic context can have variation between the latin word and the later italian word.

for example in Latin you say ""Castrum" to indicate a fortified city or a castle but in italian you would not find Castrum but Castello , itself derived from the diminutive if that word.

I've learned Latin in the Seminary (I was once a Brother in the Order of Augustinian Recollects), but I don't know any Italian.
So I might confuse Italian for Latin since I'm not familiar with Italian.
