New Finds Reveal More of Greek Goddess’ Sanctuary

Archaeologists have discovered new findings in the sanctuary of Artemis, east of Amarynthos in Evia, central Greece.

The Artemis sanctuary was discovered in 2017 in an excavation carried out by the Swiss Archaeological School in Greece in cooperation with the Evia Ephorate of Antiquities and started 10 years ago.

Artemis is my favorite Greek goddess. I remember when I first saw a statue of Artemis-Diana the huntress at a museum in Rhode Island when I was 8. I remember thinking it was the most beautiful statue I had ever seen. This began my interest in Greek mythology, history, languages, etc. I was only 8 years old and I was supplementing the tour guide, an older gentleman, with information about the goddess Athena.
