Default Corsicans, the 'lightest' southern european people.

I was sometimes surprised by the low number of corsican with olive skin and dark brown eyes. And recently i have read three studies which proved my observations. As a whole, 30% of corsicans have light eyes ( blue and light mixed ), dark brown eyes are only around 20%, which is one of the lowest percentage in France... All theses studies were before the high african immigration, so mostly among indigenous peoples.

So despite their italic provincial language, 'corsican phenotype' is closer to mainland french than to italian people.

The truth is that Corsicans are lighter than French people.

If they're 30% light eyed then that puts them on par with Tuscans, not mainland French. Genetically Corsicans cluster with other Italians as well.

I think the misconception some people have when they place them more with Mainland French than with Italians is that they expect them to look South Italians but the might resemble North Italians Anthropolgically more.

Many of their foods are South Italian like however

well according to reason ,Tuscany is not considered south why should Corsica? i think it's because it's an island and gets "mediterranized " a bit in the collective imagination . Culturewise and foodwise they are Midway between Sardinia and old Genoans marinary traditions (which got inspired by the whole coast of Italy)

I suppose you've never been to Corsica. Corsicans are like a mix of Sardinians and Italians. A minority of Corsicans do have some French ancestry, but many Corsicans have their own vibe. The area of France most similar to Corsica is the south of France, much less the rest of France. Corsican language is a central Italian language but like he was spoken by a southern Italian. I know Corsica and France backwards and forwards.

30% light eyed is the average of Italy (30.9%) according to old anthropologists. North Italy is 40% light eyed, with peaks in the Alps of over 50%.

An example? The Corsican cuisine is a mixture and has been very influenced by the Ligurian and now by the French, and has feedback with all of Italy.

^^^ Yeah, I was going off this map which I found on wikipedia commons. However there are 2 sources linked with this image. One is the study on height and the other link is broken. So these results probably should be taken with a grain of salt.
