(This is all hypothetical, just hear me out, I'm a Libertarian who is very fiscally Conservative.)
I constantly hear black activists in the US spouting about reparations for slavery, so I say... Let's give it to them!
..hear me out..
The underlying reason some black Americans support the idea of getting reparations from slavery is to be paid off in a humanitarian effort to make amends for the White Colonialism in the 1600s-1800s.. This would be seen as a sort of "beginning" of a more friendly and allied relationship between two of the three most prominent and important races in the United States.
Would I support this normally? HELL NO.
HOWEVER..
If reparations were handed out, amends were made, and each adult citizen received a check for some moderately decent amount that everyone is happy with (This isn't something I have the knowledge to guesstimate), I believe their communities would most likely crumble.. I believe the murder rate across the country would explode, and I believe it would erase the accountability that these radical black activists feel the "White man" should have. It would be a valid "WE TOLD YOU SO" moment that would enable the black communities in the United States to put up or shut up, so to speak.. and make a positive change. And when that change doesn't happen, and only makes it worse, I truly believe it would be the beginning of the end of this racial divide, and a precursor to racial and socioeconomic harmony that we haven't experienced in a long time.
Thoughts? Do you think the financial setback would be worth the potential harmony their failure would create?
