When do you finally become a skeleton? This depends on a variety of factors, such as the temperature in your area, the state of your body at burial, the type of coffin, and so on. The process can take anywhere from a few weeks to multiple decades. However, eventually you reach the final stage of decomposition, known as diagenesis. All moisture in the body is lost, and all that will be left of you is increasingly fossilised bones.
