    Phenotype certainly plays a subconscious role. My mom won a beauty contest and was voted best looking in her high school, so of course I want to take after her there (kidding). I also want to be as honest as my dad. It's ideal to appreciate both sides, but there are times when that's impossible (abuse, neglect, crime, etc.).
