Are Calabrians dark skinned because of the Sarracens?

Some years ago, i read a book about a girl that was a Italian imigrant in Brazil

She was from Calabria and she said that the Calabrians were dark because of the "invasion of the Sarracens"

Is it true? Who are the "Sarracens"?

They are dark because they have very, very minimal Steppe ancestry (NE European/Indo European) compared to pretty much all other Europeans, even less than what parts of Sicily have. There is higher Near Eastern ancestry also, but it is the lack of North European that makes the difference.

Calabrians are dark because of the Mediterranean climate they live in. And to a lesser extend because the Romans settled various MENA citizens of the Roman empire in parts of Italy, Calabria included
