I guess the fox ''calculated'' that the risk was simply too high .... hit of bird's bill could cause bad injures. Predators are wise....

No doubts predator mammals are smarter than most of birds. For our local birds ... ''crows'' (raven, magpie, crow, jaypie) are pretty wise for birds.

I think it was about being brave? ... and crane was brave.
