Is 'compadre' a common american word nowadays?

Lately I've heard this word in some american movies/series that had nothing to do with chicanos or latinos, it was normal talking between typical anglo-americans in an anglo-american context.

Actually there are 2 types of mass shootings, schools and workplace. Since 2000 most of the workplace/terrorist shootings are foreigners or first generation Americans. For the high schools often it is revenge for being bullied.
