some military facts

It dawned on me almost all of the notorious finnish ww2 hotshots were Karelian: Törni, White Death, Terror of Morocco and his brother. Luukkanen, Pylkäs…

So I did some fact checking and indeed it is so that Karelians top the list of decorated military personel.

Mannerheim Cross recipients by origin:

1 Karelians, 49

2 Ostrobothnians, 34

3 Savonians, 30

I'ts a known fact that simple and harsh country upbringing makes for good infantrymen, particularly light infantry like Jääkari. Also Karelians fought for their very home.
Did Finnish soldiers serving in more technical units, such as airforce pilots, have a higher percentage of city boys amongst them (Juutilainen, Wind etc.)?

Actually parts of Isthmus Karelia and Southern Karelia were pretty industrialized and Viipuri was one of the biggest cities of then Finland. These areas lied close to st Pete which is THE baltic mega city and that obviously had it perks.

Of the top 10 Finnish fighter aces (with most victories),

4 were Karelian (2 in top 3)

3 were from Helsinki


1 was from Rauma (Satakunta, West coast)


1 from Iitti, Ostrobothnia


1 Finland-Swede from Ekenäs

Karelians tend to be extremely quickwitted compared rest of Finland (anyone who knows admits this blatant fact). This combined with the fact that emotions can be turned off if necessary, is fucking lethal.

Also, how is possible that Ostrobothnians are second? Everybody knows Pohjalaaset skate better backwards than forward.
