Most Irish people can speak Irish. You learn it all through school and need it for university entrance and public service etc but the Gaeltacht areas are very small but these areas are where Irish is spoken as a first language.

The map it's wrong : The map omits Sardinian and Corsican languages. Sardinians are the largest ethnic minority in Italy, with about 1.350.000 Sardinian speakers (1.700.000 total inhabitants, those who don't speak Sardinian speak Corsican/Gallurese/Sassarese, alla variants of the same language).

A tiny minority can speak Irish (Gaelic), but even though many attempts have been and are being made to revive the ancient language, it's not sticking. Most people in Ireland know only a handful of words in Irish Gaelic language, but can't construct sentences, and even less have a fluent conversation in it.

Not true at all I’m afraid, only 50,000 fluent gaeilgeoirs according to last census.
Irish people like to fool themselves into believing they successfully revived the language, when in reality they did the exact opposite to it.
