Back in the 17th century, Sorbs were still not yet an enclave surrounded by Germans.

At that time near Zielona Góra and Krosno Odrzańskie ethnic Sorbian settlement area bordered directly with ethnic Polish settlement area.

That connection disappeared in the 18th-19th centuries as the area was Germanized.

Slovenes are usually counted as South Slavs, not West.

But it is true that they are in-between West and South.

In the Early Middle Ages, Slovenes lived in the north as far as the Danube, being neighbours of West Slavs. Later those northern Slovene lands were Germanized (Bavarian expansion into what is now Austria) and Magyarized (Hungarian expansion), but Slovene language still shows many similarities with West Slavic languages (especially Slovak), and also genetically Slovenes are more similar to West Slavs than other South Slavic groups.

Czech language was tongue of villagers, non-educated people. Town dwellers and nobility were Germans or Germanized.
Czech National Revival was a work of intelectuals, originated mostly from small towns and villages.

Poles. They speak the weirdest Slavic language most deviant from Proto-Slavic what phonology is concerned (like what German is to Germanic, Polish is to Slavic).
Czech culturally I guess, for being the least conservative of them all.

Even Josef Dobrovský, who wrote a descriptive book on modern Czech grammar, believed Czech wouldn't make a return as cultural language. Luckily mass education made rid of that 19th century notion.

Polaks = one of the most religious nation in the world.

There hasn't been any contact between Czechs and Polaks for many centuries. In fact all known history we have no contact. West Slavs = a linguistic group, nothing more.
