I loved Porto when I visited. The vibe was very different from the Algarve. CV have you ever been to Alentejo or the Algarve?

Alto Alentejo is very nice if one likes medieval towns and genuine gastronomy. Évora, Elvas, Castelo de Vide, Estremoz, Evoramonte, Marvão, Vila Viçosa, Alter do Chão etc. In terms of landscape is a bit arid, similar to the province of Cáceres but very nice and peaceful, well preserved. Alentejanos are my favourite Portuguese, very calm and easy going and with a particular sense of humor.
Algarve is historically poor, not much to visit apart from the beaches/coast.

Algarve is the resort for Northern Europeans, it's barely Portuguese now, next region to be barely Portuguese will be coastal Alentejo which will be like Goa.
