However what makes this quite different, that Russia was the giant, and Japan was an emerging nation, and Japan managed to wipe out the Russians really well. However this became the most popular fight, because Russia was a world power or becoming a such only to be defeated by an emerging Japan. I am glad of course that the Japanese won against Russia and it's imperial ambitions.

Yes. You dont forget the Zulus's win against the british, only with arrows and shields. When the japanese kicked out the europeans from indochina and other territories in southeast Asia, people thought that the period of euro domination had ended, by the fact that an asians power got to win over euro countries. A pity the japs had killed so many people.

They did of course, but I support the Japanese against the Russians. The Japanese had subdued all of or most of Oceania, east Asia, and even were moving northwards toward India. They are respectable power.

I have nothing against imperialism in general. I don't see the Japs as better or worse than the Russians although they even viewed other Asians as inferior and were often very cruel towards Chinese, Koreans and Southeast Asians. The Japanese army was the most brutal one of the Second World War.
