Religion has everything to do with this because religion is a culture that backward people follow. Muslims in general are portrayed as rapists, terrorists and backward everywhere in the world. They are restricted from having any relationship with females from a very young age through gender segregation. So they grow up not knowing how to socialize with the opposite gender. Sexual assault and rape becomes very common afterwards. Islam in general destroys and restricts human nature to the point where people become mentally ill.
The quran itself clearly states that a females voice does not matter and that the man can overwrite her decision. Rape is well documented in islamic history. Islam is a culture as much as it's a religion.
