If you want to know something about Christianity there is N.T ( and many non religiou sources...)
If you want to know something about Islam there is Quran
If you want to know something about Hinduism there are Vedas
Buddhism is not a religion but it is a philosophy and there are some fundamental books about Buddha ( The oldest religious proofs of Buddha had been written 700 years after Buddha Death )
If you want to know something about ASATRU... what do you advise ?
If you want to know the methaphysic on which the asatru religion is based on .. what are the thinkers ?
Christianity has S.Thomas D'Aquin Saint Augstine Aristotle Plato ect ect
An interview with these Vikings ?
Anyway.... I respect much more everyone who is spiritual ( including ASATRU followers and ... ) than the atheists

I don't deny that paganism was the religion of Europe before Christianity..
Roman Greek and German paganism had some similarity ( indoeuropean roots).. But what we know about Nordic paganism is more and less nothing..
Some descriptions of Tacitus and Julius Caesar ( for the Roman germanic human sacrifice was horrible ) .. nothing else..
Everything written later derives from Christian Monks "fantasy"..

Exactly...
But there is a difference.. the ancient romans didn't care less about the religion of others people..
They had no interest to depict better or worst the other religions...
For the roman it was important to pay tax and to obey them..
When Julius Caesar described paganism beyond the Elbe river.. he was shocked as the same way his ancestor were shocked when Carthaginians burnt alive their children AS A GIFT TO THE GODS ( BAAL )
Do you remember the movie Apocalypto ?

The best source is probably Tacitus.
