My mothers last name is Otero which is a very common galician last name.

So it's prob the reason why. And I know that Galicia was once part of Portugal and are very similar in terms of language and ethnicity as a result
It is a fair speculation I would say. After a quick research I read that Puerto Rico was heavily colonized by Cannarians as well. A lot of people tend to forget the major Portuguese influence on the archipelago since it was firstly discovered and colonized by the Portuguese and only afterwards by the Spanish. If you are familiar with Portuguese language you might find this article interesting (and if not you might translate it with Google translator):

Perhaps down the road you do have Portuguese ancestors, who knows.

I actually didn't know that the canary islands were discovered and colonized by Portuguese first before the Spanish. Maybe it's possibly due to that then, unfortunately its a bit difficult to find historical documents in Puerto Rico which kept records of immigrant arrivals so I don't even have an idea when my ancestors first came to the Island. I've only heard from a family member who did research that according to legend, my great great grandfather's family came the from the north of Spain. I speculate that it was Galicia but sadly it's difficult to find out these things. Either way, I would be happy to have Portuguese or Galician descendants

Portuguese influence in the Canary Islands goes way back as they were discovered by the Portuguese and had many Portuguese settlers not to mention the fisherman that fisher Macronesia

I think they use Gedmatch admixture and assign nations to it do France is probably my WHG component and the rest is in the Iberian, the Portugal tag is essentially EEF and WHG

That's awesome, I had no idea about that because the Canary Islands is a history that is not taught very much in Puerto Rico even though they had an enormous impact on the Puerto Rican culture. Well I'm proud to have part of portuguese or galician ancestry in me, whatever it is supposed to be!
