The differences aren't as striking as people on the web would have you believe. Like one group is the Sudanese and the other pygmies. I am 6'2" and Spaniards were about equal to the Brits and Irish I came in contact with, neither of these 3 groups were towering over me on average. Lots of height exaggerations going around.

As a well-travelled men I can only say that compared to Germans (yeah, yeah, North-South and East-West divide in height exists, certainly) Scandinavians and Dutch are slightly taller, Czechs and Yugoslavs about equal. French, Northern Italians, British Islanders and Poles are shorter. Portugese and Spaniards are a lot shorter (former more). So yeah. My 2 cents, ignoring all those height statistics.

Our investigation covering 2705 boys and 2842 girls aged 17 years, shows that, contrary to the general belief, adolescents of the Dinaric Alps are, on average, the tallest in Europe. With an average height of 185,6 cm, they are taller than Dutch adolescents (184 cm on average). Above all, the density of very tall subjects appears to be characteristic of the Dinaric Alps, since 28% measure 190 cm or more in height, as opposed to only 20% in Holland and 1.5% in France.

We could roughly calculate a “secular growth” of 10 Cm, so the figures you indicated look right.

According to the Imperial College of London, the Portuguese are among the nationalities that have grown the most on average in the last 100 years (14 cm), only surpassed by the Koreans and Iranians (16 cm). The gap between the older generations and the younger ones can be seen even among a few Portuguese members on TA, who are from 10 to 20 cm taller than their parents and presumably our kids will surpass us as well in the future.
