    I think it is obvious they have some Croat or German ancestry, but they already mixed with the rest of Hungarians, so that part of their ancestry won't come out as majority, but probably they will be still a bit shifted towards that country. Some of these names are in Hungary for hundreds of years.

    It is totally modern Turkish. Literally means brave son of an artillery gunner. Ataturk introduced the Surname Law in 1934 so Turks chose surnames for themselves. God knows what story lies behind my surname.

    My name also typically ends with i, in it's usual iteration. I have also seen it end with y. But my version just ends at h, I don't know why. It is a pretty rare name. My dad always told me it ment "meat maker", which does not make sense when I translate it. From my Google research, it is a Hungarian place name of a city now in western Ukraine. Nobody in the US can ever pronounce it correctly!
