The 200,000 illegals living there that are Dominican would go back to the Dominican Rep. Ricans would need a visa to visit the USA, and
they would not be able to live in the USA and enjoy USA citizenship. PR went into massive debt by putting way too many people of the government payroll, and then paying all of these pensions. They did by borrowing money from USA Wall St and Hedge Funds. If the USA said adios on Thursday, it would become more violent than Jamaica and the Dominican Rep combined. It would be mass chaos and mayhem.

They had no plan nor provisions whatsoever. The government confiscated aid and engaged in typical Caribbean corrupt BS. One year later there is a billion Bottles of water at an Airport that was never delivered to citizens. That government is incapable of doing the most minor tasks bereft of corruption.

The REAL question is whether or not Puerto Rico can survive independence. From the little I have seen as a tourist, I would say "NO".

Farewell, Puerto Rico.
The only issue Puerto Ricans can be able to complain about as a territory of the US is that foreign ships have to go directly to the US before the goods carried can be brought to Puerto Rico. The consequence is Puerto Ricans pay an unnecessary inflated price on these goods. Otherwise they have privileges that Americans don't have. There is no capital gains tax in Puerto Rico.
