    Default Your favourite Christian-based movie

Well given that Easter is right around the corner and tons of religiously-inspired movies seem to be aired on television during this time of year, I was wondering which, if any, movie you like?

Yes yes I know I am heathen but I still like some Christian-based movies nonentheless.

My very favourite has to be Jesus Christ Superstar, the original of course! I dunno, it's always appealed to me and remains my very favourite movie. I guess I'm a bit of a hippy at heart.

My next favourite Ben-Hur. Exciting, thrilling, sooooo Hollywood and all in wonderful Cinemascope too! Charleton Heston's acting may be a tad cheesy by today's standards but it is still an exciting movie to watch.

Il Vangelo secondo Mateo, of Pasolini; Marcelino Pan y vino, of Vadja and, of course, Cecil B. de Mile's Ten Commandments. Probably Im missing many which I remember with nostalgia, for example, the Christ lifes played each year during decades for Holly Week at Spanish public television. Bizarrely enough, last one I remember Life of Brian being emited. Obviously my country is not what it used to be.

Pd. Great films also the two you cited. Although Jesuschrist Superstar was too much heterodoxal for RTVE programmers to make part of the wheel of Hollyweek life's of Jesus I told about.

Chariots of Fire is a biographical film about Scottish missionary and Olympic athlete Eric Liddell. The film tells the story of Liddell's life during the period surrounding the 1924 Paris Olympics. In particular, it shows the depth of Liddell's Christian commitment; he refused to run a race that fell on a Sunday, which he believed to be the Christian Sabbath. He stuck to his convictions, even though the public was disappointed in him. Instead, he entered the 400 meter race, which he was not trained for. He won the race and the gold medal, outdistancing the silver medalist by 5 meters.

He returned to China afterward and served as a missionary until 1943. He died in a Japanese internment camp at the close of World War II.

I'm not a religious guy, but I like religion-themed imagery, films included. I remember Jesus Christ Superstar being one of the first movies I watched in English, as they showed it here in original version with subs, fortunately.

Great ones indeed. The Gospel according to St Matthew is, according to many, one of the best films about Jesus ever. The Ten Commandments is a masterpiece and Marcelino, Pan y vino (in English known, though, as the Miracle of Marcelino) is probably one of the best films made during the years of censorship.

I have to add Zeffirelli's Jesus of Nazareth to the list.

I prefer Old Testament movies, like The Prince of Egypt or The Ten Commandments. They could be considered Christian too, depending on your POV.

    The Passion was awesome!

Also, if the Chronicles of Narnia movies count, I loved those, and the books as well.
