Segregation was a system used to keep African Americans from being a burden to society as they transitioned to freedom; look at them now XD. If we would have had another 100 years of segregation things might be much better. Has little to do with anything else. There are always extremists and extremists always make more of a splash than civilized people, look at the extreme anti-Segregationists a bunch of abortion loving anti-Christian femnazi hippies, it is easy to hijack a narrative when you are screaming over everybody and making a scene.
