North africa is probably just as diverse.
You have North African/Amazigh influence, Black african influence, Arab influence, and european influence.
and all those combinations combined can create quite ambigious and unique looking people.
I've been guessed for Souss Berber, Tuareg berber, Egyptian, and Libyan a few times lmao. A Algerian berber even once told me i could pass in the more southern regions of Algeria because i had a too "Orientalid phenotype" LMAO
so yeah, u could probably pass in Southern Morocco or Libya/Egypt. Which is where the people are darker too.

I am from Algiers, and sorry to tell you but i am sick and tired of all this berberist movements trying to attach Berber label at all aspects of Magherbi culture, there was no Maghreb before Arabs came in, the two peoples mixed since the 8th century and there is no point in dividing them, only linguistic factor can indicates who have more Arab or Berber lineage. One thing is true all Maghrebis have both Arab and Berber origins since they were not replaced or annihilated just blended together.
A Kabyle friend was once very annoying until I elucidated my views on this topic after tumultuous debates.

You pass yes, only in coastal areas though : coastal Algeria, Northern Morocco & Tunisia
I don’t know what you are trying to say but it’s obvious you don’t know what you are talking about.
I am from an Arabic speaking region myself and have no problem to acknowledge and accept that I am Berber and Maghreb is Berber. Being apparently « Arab » myself, my DNA test shows no Arab backgrounds such as many/most NW Africans if you are interested to the subject. There is absolutely no genetical and cultural differences between the supposed 2 groups except the language (regardless of some regional differences of course).
Lineage/haplogroups means shit, Berber roots have been trace until Horn of Africa which explains some aspects of our DNA (SSA and Red Sea mostly, a very ancient component common common to all Berbers such as some haplogroups).
The Arab input genetically speaking among Maghrebis is extremely low and only concerns few minorities. The Arab troops were not numerous enough to change/influence the genetical composition of a whole population and only impact some people at an individual level.
The Arabization of the region has been extremely long (took many centuries) and it still continues and has never been complete, high mountains and some regions in the Sahara, due to their harsh landscapes avoided it that way. The Arabization of the region has been done mostly through religion (zaouias) and the Arabic elite from few big cities who tried to impose it as an official language at different moments of history. Most of the Arabic words we use in Maghrebi dialects are from Qu'ran and its funny because when I speak with my Middle Eastern friends, some of them are suprised because we are using very formal/old Arabic : example : the word "7anout", a very common word used in Algeria to say a "store" has created an hilarious reaction in one of my Jordanian friend who asked me "why I was speaking so formal"
If you look at the previous century, there were way more Berberophones. Maghreb always has been extremely tribal and divided by tribes but the supposed division between "Arabs" & Berbers is nonetheless extremely recent, taking its origin from colonial times. The linguistic difference has been used by French to divide the region, especially in Algeria when they decided to conquer the Kabylie region who remained autonomous during Ottoman period & who resisted during a long time against the regency of Algiers. They tried to make alliances with them because they were sharing "a common enemy". An approach that obviously failed but left an impact in how people are identifying now in the region. Ever heard of the Kabyle myth ?
Go talk to the oldest generations, most of them will admit they are not Arabs genetically speaking but Berbers.
I am not trying to divide anyone, actually it’s the opposit, because we are all the same, and such things as Arabs & Berbers dont exist, there is only "Arabized Berbers" and "Berberophone Berbers". Maghrebi are just really ignorant about their history and brainwashed by some oriented political positions during the last century. Especially in Algeria with Boumédiène era who was apro Arabism which is pretty ironic because he was himself of Kabyle backgrounds...
