Do slow trains bore you? Do you like to fly past cars, steel on steel, connecting two big cities faster than any other form of transportation? But you also enjoy the views of Switzerland? Then you're probably right here. ;-) What you'll see here is the highest regular speed in Switzerland. Why is our top speed "only" 200km/h? Many other railways try to make their trains as fast as possible, while in Switzerland, they go as fast as necessary. The goal behind the integrated schedule in Switzerland is to reduce overall travel time and allow for good connections in all possible directions, not just raw speed. The NBS (Neubaustrecke, new HSL line Mattstetten - Rothrist, more Info will be displayed during the video) was built so the travel time is reduced under one hour, allowing for perfect connections on the trains that depart hourly or half-hourly. After all, 200km/h is definitely not slow. These speeds with up to 1000 tonnes of steel in the back is still very impressive, even by today's standards. Today's journey starts in Bern and and soon after departure, our train will already reach the maximum non-ETCS network speed of 160km/h in the Grauholztunnel. Right after the tunnel, the ETCS-equpped NBS starts, allowing for 200km/h, which we will experience up until a few kilometers before Rothrist, the end of the NBS. The rest of our trip to Zurich is mostly in areas between 125 and 140km/h, still far from slow speeds.

    Locomotive: SLM Re 460
    Train stops at:
    Bern
    Zurich Main Station

It is our privilege to present another famous Rhaetian railway to you - The world heritage listed Albula Railway. With it's 55 bridges and 39 tunnels, it is one of the most spectacular narrow gauge railways in the world. The centerpiece is the 5866m long Albula tunnel, which at 1820m above sea level, is the second highest alpine tunnel in Switzerland. Our journey starts in Chur, the terminus station of the SBB normal gauge line from Zürich. Further details will follow

Welcome to the second cab ride along the world famous, heritage listed Bernina railway, this time in 4K 60 frames per second quality - and during winter. If you missed the first run along this track, it is worth checking out https://youtu.be/Mw9qiV7XlFs (recorded Autumn 2019). A special thank you to Paolo for recording this trip. His channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/dellacap... The Bernina railway sets a few records, including being the highest railway alpine crossing in Europe (2253m), the highest adhesion railway of the continent, the open air railway with the greatest height difference (1824m) and furthermore one of the steepest adhesion railways (conventional railway without cogs) worldwide, with gradients of up to 7%. The gradients are included in the upper right corner in the same format as they appear to the driver. The arrow indicates whether the gradient is up or down, the larger number is the promille value (1/10 of 1%) and the smaller number indicates the distance of the gradient in meters. You will also see station names with their altitude, tunnel and bridge names with their length and year of construction - as well as other interesting information along the way to improve your viewing experience. A unique aspect of Switzerland's narrow gauge mountain railways is the mixing of passenger and freight wagons in a single train, with wagons often added or removed at intermediate stops with shunting locomotives. On the Bernina line, the cargo mostly consists of wood on stake cars and derivatives of oil in tank cars. Today we take a wagon with us from Pontresina to Poschiavo with good for a Coop supermarket. Thanks for watching and have a great day! This video is copyrighted and may not be reuploaded, edited, used or distributed on youtube or outside of this platform without my written consent.

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | Focusing on Switzerland's often-overlooked urban charms, we explore lakeside Luzern, cobbled Bern, spire-filled Zürich, and sophisticated Lausanne. We’ll enjoy eye-opening art, from Chagall and Klee to the works of asylum inmates. We’ll ring a very big bell high up in a church spire, float down a rushing river, and ponder Switzerland's pragmatic drug policies and hidden underground arsenals. And it's all before a backdrop of stunning natural beauty. © 2008 Rick Steves' Europe

The day at "Alp Calfeisen" starts with heating up the huge cheese vat. Cheese is still made by hand here according to a traditional method with milk from healthy cows grazing on high pastures.

Welcome and Happy Swiss national day! (1. Aug). In this video, you’ll have a chance to See Switzerland’s main east - west transit route from Geneva in the south west through to Zürich from the driver's cab of a tilt train. Special thanks to Brad for recording this video. The route closely follows several of Switzerland’s beautiful lakes, including the lake of Geneva, the lake of Neuchâtel and the lake of Biel. For the train enthusiasts among you, there are also plenty of private railways and interesting locomotives we’ll be passing. For this video I have labelled selected trains and locomotives with their operating number, year of manufacture and manufacturers (labels in pink). Next to the station names, I’ve included altitude in meters. The maximum allowable speeds are also shown on the bottom right of the screen as they come into effect. On a number of occasions where the speed is limited due to signalling, the signal colours are shown at the top right of the screen. This is to help viewers make sense of the different colour combinations. As we pass junctions, I have included purple comments on available videos in the respective directions. These videos are (or will be) linked below for your convenience. Where gradients over 1% (1 unit vertical climb per 100 units of horizontal travel) they are included in the upper right corner. The larger number indicates the promille value (1/10 of 1%) and the smaller number the number of meters the gradient will follow. The quality doesn't look great at 1080p. The 4K processing should be finished soon, I hope it improves. If you would like the original quality, you can buy the video for a donation to the paypal account connected to this channel.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

How do you hide a deadly military fortress? Well if you're Swiss, you paint it pastel pink and pretend it's a harmless family home. I went to the shores of Lake Geneva to find out more...
