I imagine that in Belgium something similar also happens between the speakers of French and Dutch. In Catalonia among the speakers of Spanish and Catalan. And in the United States in areas such as Los Angeles and Miami.

I thought that this kind of problem does not occur between French speakers and English speakers in Canada.

It actually does. They wanted a referendum for independence or something.

I think they use the same tactics that the Catalans use against the Spanishs for independence.

That was a very long time ago. It's not as bad anymore. The leading separatist party aren't in power in Quebec anymore, so that sentiment is slowly going away. But there are still Quebeckers who think it's within their best interests to separate, and still a lot of communities that are not bilingual actually. I don't consider it a big deal because I don't speak French, they still speak one of our official languages. It is what it is. The provinces out East are bilingual, but outside the major cities in Quebec most converse in French primarily.

And what about the people of Quebec who refuse to speak English like the girl in the video?

That still exists, ya. More so in smaller cities but this one says it's near Montreal which is kind of weird. I personally know people who are born and raised in Montreal and don't speak French well enough to have a conversation.

It's not surprising though watching this. It's unfortunate, but also not the greatest or most accurate representation of the population either.

Not really. Most French Canadians are pretty good.

The "lady" - aka low-class, foul-mouthed trailer trash arrested twice in Quebec - in the video brought it on herself. Had she acted like a decent human being instead of going on this pathetic little tirade of hers one of staff or manager would have turned around & spoken to her in English.

They're just screwing with the idiot.

I think I read a piece of news that said that the percentage of French speakers is decreasing more and more in Quebec. That's why some frank bilinguals get aggressive with English speakers.
